A sharp shock of earthquake was experienced in Nelson yesterday at 1.23 p.m. The formal opening of the Nelson Golf Club's season will take place at the links, Tahunaj this afternoon. The arrest is a sequel to the charge of the theft of a trunk preferred against a young woman named Dane, who was before the Court on Tuesday last, and remanded for a week.The Richmond Horticultural and Industrial Show will be opened on Monday afternoon next by the Mayor of Richmond. Particulars are given by advertisement. _ It was stated during the hearing of a wife's charge of cruelty against Tier husband at Barnslejr that he had offered her for sale in a public-house for £10, finally lowering- his ; valuation to three halfpence. The charge was dismissed. Victoria has exported this year 200,000 cases of, apples, a record for tho State. They were packed in cases made from Australian timber, which rceant a saving of 5d a case. The quality of the fruit exported was declared .to be very saisfactory. In'anotiher column the^ officer commanding the Nelson Rifles invites applicants for membership to the corps, in order that those who are accepted may be uniformed for the Easter camp. •The corps has just decided "to go in for a hew uniform, and will in every be a weil-equipped corps. Financially, the corps is a very sound one, has a fine and well-provided or-derly-room, while every encouragement is given to members to become proficient in shooting. At the present time there should be no lack of applicants desirous of becoming volunteers. Those wishing to join this corps arc invited to. attend at the Drill Shed at half -past seven on Monday evening.
