(Ftom Our Own Correspondent.)

Christchurch, March 17.. At. the. banquet tendered to the New Zealand Lodge pi Oddfellows last evening, Messrs H. G. Ell. and ;T, E. .Taylor, members of Parliament, while responding to.the. toast. of the Parh'ament: of .New. Zealand, discussed, the political, future^ and made brief prophecies'. ; ; ' • Mr EU; stated that he considered that during the next three sessions the people -of the Dominion, would take a lively interest in the doing of Parliament. There was no doubt that there had been a slight change in pubr lie feeling; there were a number of new members in the Houses and no one knew yet exactly how they would vote. He hoped that things would go on as they had been going. . The unemployed difficulty would have to be seriously, considered but it .could , not be/handied by New Zealand alone, or iby;; any other country without the_ co-opera-fcipn of the rest of the world." If any icbuntry succeeded in providing employment for all of .its population the unemployed from other countries would flockto it.

Mr Taylor also laid particular stress on the fact that the question of dealing with "the unemployed would have to be considered very seriously, •.- • It was only a matter of five years, he said, and -it would be , possible for a man to go*..-- to. the • Government, ■■ and after saying that he had 'faithfully discharged the ' duties of citizenship and .was a. good .citken,, demand the right to work. ' The' future was full, of : social .problems. There could" be" no' political: rest" -for the /Dominion, when'-there ;were so many" ■wrongs to. be righted, and so many defects to be remedied. The politician who wanted political rest would obtain a political rest that would .last- the whole of his life.^:;- \ ; " ! -.--., .
