Wellington and- Manawatu Railway- Company -to be- laid before the shareholders . on March 18th states,' that the profit on the year's operations was £66,738. Of this' £57,964 was derived from z - ailway working, and £8,774 from land sales and interest.- It is impossible to say the' amount per share 'which will be available when all the assets have been liquidated, but a rough estimate fixes it at £2 15s for each £1 of the paid up capital, which comprises 170,000 shares of £5 each, and about 100,000 shares of this number are held by New Zealand residents. During its final year the company paid £6,000 in rates and taxes. The gross traffic receipts were £728,242, the expenditure absorbing £60,689.
