, New jrlymouth, March 3. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr. Fitzherbert, S:M., a, farmer, named John Wilkinson was charged by the Stock Department with having neglected to give notice to the Inspector of Stock that one of-his : cows was suffering from a malignant growth, on qne,of;the. eyes/ the defendant havr ing susiieivted the cow to be so suffer-' ing.-* Mter- hearing the evidence for the "prosecution the information was amended 'by .the inclusion of the word cancer^ I The evidence disclosed that the milk from the cow was 1 not sent to the -factory.. but was used to feed the calves. The defendant denied that ho knew- the cow *was diseased. _ He considered the eye had been injured .perhaps in the bush. .. . Mr.jFitzherbert, in giving judgment said:! No doubt the cow ivas suffering conceri ". Only one day" was mentioned in the -information and the defendant would "be convicted and fined £5, with costs £5 5s 6d. The minimum pen-alty-was £5; for every day of the offence^ -' .-.'.- .
