A HOTEL BURNED. ' NARROW ESCAPE OF THE INMATES. * [United Pbebs Asbooiation.3 Wellington, March 3. The Paikakarika Hotel, lessee Mr Hilton, and : owner Mr Anyon, was burned down this morning. Nothing was saved but the piano. It is supposed that the outbreak was started in. the dining-room. ~. . ■■ . Later. • The hotel contained 35 rooms. The fire was first discovered by the-laun-dress at five o'clock this morning. There were thirty-one boarders in the house, who were aroused by the housemaid. The boarders escaped in their night clothes, and the licensee had only his coat and trdusers. Absolutely nothing was saved, and so fiercely did the fire burn that in a quarter of an hour after the alarm was given the building was in ruins. Mr Hilton lost about £80 worth of jewellery,- and the boarders' lost valuables, to a smallor amount. The building was insured for 1.£2100 J and the. stock and .furniture I for £400, both in the Liverpool, Xpnd'bri, and Globe office, , .•
