NELSON HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the .above named Board was held last night,_ there being present Messrs H. Baigent, (Chairman), Everett, Field, Grace, Sheat, Gill, Hoult, and Macmahon. ' Payment was authorised of accounts for the Hospital amounting to £281 17s sd, and for charitable aid to £820 14s 6d. The latter included £620 due to the contractor on account of the new Home, which the architect repbrt--ed would be- finished in about- a* week.

Some discussion ensued as to cost of supervision in connection with, the new Home. It was resolved to get the architect to explain same. - The Relieving Officer's report was read and considered. A woman wrote asking for relief for her family, ' her husband being out of work. It appeared that the husband is addicted "to drink. Considerable discussion ■ ensued, aiid eventually it was resolved to grant relief providing the husband agrees to a prohibition order being taken out in his case. Messrs Everett, Field, and Sheat were of opinion that the relief should be granted and the police be instructed to take out a prohibition order against the man. ; . ' A Blenheim resident wrote desiring to take charge of .a girl, who is under the care of the Board. It was resolved not to nart with the girl. ... It was resolved that the Board meet Dr Mason, the Chief Health Officer, on Wednesday, April 7th, at three o'clock, to discuss the question ol providing accommodation and suitable employment for persons on leaving the consumptive annexe. ■■■-. It was resolved to allow a woman who is caring for a sick and dying child 12s per week. . ■ „,- A man wrote thanking the Boardior the help which had been given him; and stating as he was how in receipt of the old age pension he would require help no longer. , ' n ' ■ ; , A woman was allowed 10s towards repairing a cottage. / It was resolved, on the' motion ot Mr Everett, seconded by Mr Grace, that the town members of the Board interview the City. Council as to the destruction of tne old Home. ■

Tenders for supplies to the Board's institutions were considered. For milk, Messrs York Bros tender was accepted; meat Messrs Faireyßros. ; for bread. Mr C. McLean; for flourj Mr 0. Johns ; for coal, Messrs Neale and Haddow (Puponga and Westport). ; Messrs Lightband and Co (State Mine coal) ; for firewood, Messrs Webley and Co (by lot, the tenderers' prices being equal) ; for funerals, Mr Alfred Shone. The tenders for groceries were referred to the town members to consider.

It was resolved to- meet at fc.!r o'clock this afternoon to consider tliu tenders for the furniture, bedding, arid other requisites "for the new Home. .■■■- ' .■'.;" , " . -

The Hospital return showed 67 patients on the list, of whom- 24 were received during February, and 29 left.' Of the latter 14 were cured, 13 relieved, one died, and one was removed to the Mental Hospital. ' The Board adjourned shortly after ten o'clock until 4 p.m. to-day.
