INCREASED BIRTH RATE. [Press Association — Copteight.] Sydney, Feb. 22. . The population of the-State at the end of last year has been estimated at 1,605.000, an' increase of 31,808, whereof 26,458 are due to the excess of births over deaths. Tlu\ excess h the highest, on record. Tlie births numbered '42,543, a record. The deaths were 16,085, which, with the exception of the year 1906, is the'lowesfc on record-. Marriages numbered 12,615, equal to 7.9 per thousand of the population, the highest for 23 years, and 3 per cent above, the average of the last five years ,
