The Union. Company's office at the Port was closed for an hour yesterday morning 'while the funeral, of the victims of the wreck of the Penguin was in progress. Flags were flown at half mast on buildings iii the town and at the Port, and on the shipping. Messrs Rentoul and Kenah, relatives of Mr W..S. Rentoul, third engineer of the Penguin, who was drowned, - proceeded by the Pateena to Wellington yesterday in order to attend the funeral of. deceased, which takes place there to-day; Messrs Hall (2), relatives of Mr Edwin Herbert Hall, second Cook' Of the Penguin, whd lost his life in thu wreck on Friday night, were passengers for Wellington by the . Pateena yesterday. So far the body of Mr Hall has not been found. . -; Owing to the wreck of the Periguin the Wakefield school tea .party has been postponed until further notice. , Among the drowned was Mrs Angelina Trice, a widow, .who resided at Newtown, Wellington. She had gone to Picton on business and was returning home. She was a sister of Mr William Taylor,, of Motueka. It is a remarkable coincidence that the official numbers of the Penguin and the Charles Edward (which was recently wrecked at Wanganui) ran consecutively, being as follows : , Periguin, 47849; Charles Edward, 47850. Both vessels were built at Glasgow in 1864.
