Mr Newport wished to lay a certain matter before the meeting.and he walked from Richmond to Brightwater in order to do so. After sitting out the .forenoon session the old gentleman was' heard, and he theh dined with the delegates: and after, a cheery farewell to "those he had met, he set off to walk back to Richmond. He appeared to think nothing of his eight-mile walk, and in the meeting was apparently following the proceedings very clearly, and his interest .was evident.
