During her long stay at Port Chalmers the Maitai received a very extensive overhaul, and ias been renovated throughout. A large sum of money, said to be £20,000, was spent in repairing -fclie -vessel a___<_*. ker engines. "You seem much upset, my good man," remarked the curate, who hap>pened to call when Mr Murke was layng down the law somewhat emphatically to his family circle. "Hupset," bellowed Murke, "I should think. l ham hupset. Our kid has jest set 'isself on fire, and blowed if the missus 'ere ain't bin an' put 'im out witii my pot o' beer, an' me stony-broke, too."
