THE WAITARA TRAGEDY.
[United Press Association.] New Plymouth, Feb. 3. It is several years since a peison has been charged with murder at New Plymouth, and when the Court opened this morning there was a large number of spectators. Dr. Edwin Jonathan Goode was charged with murdering Mary Ellen Kleiner, at Waitara, oh December 14th, by shooting her with a revolver. The accused appeared calm and collected, and he has much improved in appearance since his arrest. Mr T. S. Weston and Mr C. H. Weston appeared for the prosecution, and Mr # Johnstone and Mr Wilkes (of Waitara) for the accused. Mr Weston made no opening address, but proceeded to call witnesses. The latter were all ordered out of Court on Mr Johnstone's application. The case ij likely to last several days. '
