It ia alleged tbat MoGurk, having been refused entrance to- Berrett's house attempted to break down the back dcor.7l Benett stepped outside and threatened McGurk witb the police, and the latter then turned to leave the premises. Suddenly it is alleged, he seized what appeared to be a knife, and stabbed Berrett in the neck. Berrett was found in a pool of blood. The wound missed 1 the main artery, but went through the muscles of the neok to the , vertebra. Berrett. after being attended by tbe doctor, was removed i to.tlie hospital, and his condition is 1 serious, bat tho result may not be ; fatal. : •■
