THE PROPOSED NEW HOME. A meeting was held last night at the Bishop's Schoolroom, with regard to xhe above proposal, when t h e Bishop of Nelson presided. Tbe Chairman stated that the Trustees of St. Andrew-) Oipbanage had long desired to bave a new Home ou a more desirable site than tha present ono ia Waimea rond. One of tho Government inspectors , had made certain suggestions regarding the present Home, and the Trus- ; tees considered it was better to put . forth a determined effort to try and procure a more desirable property, than to spend money on tho present . Home. It was also thought that tho i ladies of Nelson would assist in the work of canvassing for donations to- , wards a new Home. ; Tbe Kov. J. P. Kempthorne referred to the large sum tbat had just; . been raised by means of collecting ; in the streets at Dunedin for tbe . Hospital and charitable institutions. I Tbe Rev. J. H MacKenzie said the . ladies could help, and they would be . doing a very good work. Not only . street collecting, out n systematic ! bouse to house collection should be : made ! Mr W. T. Bond said the idea of i street collecting- was to secure small ■ sums that would never bo given if a ■ collecting book was used, it was securiog what might be termed tbe floating oash.gand the sixpences and . shillings thus obtained often • amounted in tbe aggregate to a respectable 'sum. He said as orphans . were received from the central part ; of the Dominion, he tbougbt tho ; ladies of- Blenheim, Westport, Groy- '. mouth, and other centres of population might assist m the work of collecting. He moved: "That the ladies be invited to make a canvass in aid of the fuDds of St. Andrew's Orphanage in tbe streets of the city on Christmas Eve and on New Year's Eve." Seconded by the Rev. J. P. Kempthorne, and carried unsniinously. The Bey. J. H. MacKenzie moved, and Mr Bond seconded, that a canvass be also made of the wbole city, house to bouse, as soon as this can be done advisedly by the ladies. Carried unanimously.J It was resolved en tbe motion of tbe Rev. J. H. MacKenzie, that tbe Secretary be instruetod to have sufficient collecting boxes and books prepared to carry out the foregoing resolutions. The^Rev. J. P. Kempthorne handed in the following names df ladies who bad intimatsd their willingness to assist in the collecting :— Mrs E. A. Tasker, Misses Dickson, Naylor, Fleming and Acron. The meeting then adjourned, after a vote of thanks tothe ohairman, until Saturday evening at half past seven, when it is expected a considerable number of ladies will be present to make arrangements for the collecting campaign.
