The deceased had never complained, and this morning be seemed in his usual health and spirit. Aftei a hearty breakfast he left in his express for town; but had not pro oeeded far when he wa9 noticed* to fall back and expire. Invercargill, Dec. 7. A railway fireman, named Norman Thomson, aged 23, bad one of his feet so severely crusbed this morn ing that amputation was necessary. i Having set the points, he had jumped on to the engine; but his foot slipped, and the wheel passed over his ankle, crushing it. TLe jury returned a vt'rdict that death resulted from » a bullet wound self-inflicjed while temporarily insane.
