THE RAILWAY SERVANTS.
A DIFFICULTY SETTLED. Wellington, Nov. 3. For some years the Amalgamated Society if Railway Servants has been asking the Government to count continuously for superannuation purposes the w-bole period served in the Railway Department by 74 employees, who during the maritime strike of 1890 temporarily ceased to be in the railway employ. Through a brief breach in tbeir service some of the strikers lost many years in their total computation for superannuation purposes. Last session of Parliament, by an amnndnient of the Superannuation Act, enabled this broken time to be conn, ted both by strikers who are dow in the service.and those already receiving superannuation provided a payment of £1500 was made to the Government for the Hail way Superannuation Fund. The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants took a ballot of members to decide whether the J6IEOO should be paid out of its funds, with the result tbat a substantial majority in '-favour/-- of accepting the Government's ' offer was indicated, the figures beicg: for, 3821; against 537— majority for, 3295.
