NELSON SAVAGE CLUB.
During the last week the city has been widely circularised with a view to forming a Savage Club. The convenors announced a meeting for Saturday evening," and Jth is was attended by a considerable number of genltemenjinterested^in the forma tion of sucn a club. Mr O. Y. Pell occupied the chair, In his opening remarkß the Chairman made reference to the success of Savage clubs in other towns, and to the need of such an institution in Nelson. Messrs M agin nity, Hurley and Houlker also spoke in support of the intention to form a Savage Club. It was finally resolved that those present form the "Nelson Savage Club." Mr C. Y. Fell was unanimously elected President ; Vice-Prosi-dents and Committee were also chosen ; Mr J. Houlker was elected Hon. Treasurer ; and Mr W. V. Kout as lion. Secretary. The first korero will be held on Saturday, 30th inst., at place to be fixed by the Committee, and the informal installation of the President (Chief Savage) will tiien take place in the manner affected by Savage Clubs.
The Club will start with a membership of over sixty, and it is expected Jthat this number will be largely increased before the date of tne firstlkorero. There gseems to be a prevailing misapprehension that every member must be ablo to perform some item when called upon, but it may be pointed out that there is no such condition attaching to membership.
It is expected that the Savage Club in Nelson will, as in other places, supply a long-felt want in the social life of the male portion of the community.
