RESCUER RECEIVES A FORTUNE.
Peter Andersen, a farm labourer of White Bluffs, Washington, has inbentated a fortnue amounting to £72,000 under most romantic oireumstancßs. Andersen, who was too poor to buy wallpaper, had covered the walls of his cottage with news papers. KocentJy he noticed an advertisement, in one of tnese papers asking for information of his iv hereabouts. He replied to the adadvertisement, and on establishing bis identity, he was informed that he was heir to the sum namod. He received a draft of £1000 to enable him to come to New York to collect the balence. Andersen left I/enmark in 1873 aboard the ship W. J. Gottry, which was wrecked off Newfoundhnd. He was a powerful swimmer, and seizing Peter Knudsen, a drown ing passenger, kept him afloat until they were able to crawl on to soine wreckage, which floated them bo'ta ashore. Afcer much privation, botti reaofced New York, where they
separated. Knudaen ''made tan immense fortune in the "glove business in New\Jersey, and bequeathed it to his rescuer.
