Dunedin, May 17. A special meetiDg of the Green Island branch of the Otagd* Coalminera Union was held on Saturday nighfc to discuss the dispute with Messrs Christie Bros. Messrs Forbes and Love, the check Inspectors, submitted a partial report on their inspection of Christie Bros' No. 2 mine on Saturday afternoon, and stated they were obliged to postpone the remainder of their inspection owing to daylight failing and the condition of the mine. Mr Forbes made statements concerning the lack"of escape, outlet, and necessary fences across the old workings. He considered the Government Inspector's report on the mine was unsatisfactory. The check Inspectors had arranged to meet Mr Christie, and completejjthe inspection at|l p,m to-day, but a protest was made against the Inspectors being ordered out to work on Sunday, and the meeting decided that the Inspectors meet Mr Christie, out of courtesy, but that l\-o. ] s A oction be postponed until Moncl.-y. During the proceedings a wire was read from Mr Rogers, of Blackball, as follows : — "Wire financial position, and if in need of assistance." The message was received with _tumultuous applause.
