The by-election for Newport, a division of Salop, to till the vacancy caused by the death of Colonel \V". Kenyon-Slaney (C. ) resiiltad iv the return of^Mr Stainer (Unionise) by 5328 votes , Mr F. Neilson (Liberal) polling 4377.
