Sir William Russell is taking a trip to Australia.

Mr John Smart will be an Opposition candidate for the Tuapeka seat.

Mr John Graham.. M.P. for Nelsson, is at present on a visit to Feilding.

Sit Joseph Ward oil Thursday visited Te Piike, and yesterday Tauranga. He was cordially welcomed at both places. He leaves Tauranga en route for Opotiki.

Mr Aitken has been asked to contest the mayoralty of Wellington with Mr Hislop, who stands for reelection.

Mr W. Dinnie, Commissioner of Holice, who has been visiting Nelson, left for the West Coast yeßterday morning.

On Monday, Mr William Veruon Rout will apply to be admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court.

Mr A. T. Maginnity, Chairman of the Education Board, returned from Wellington yesterday, having attended the monthly meeting of the Victoria College Council.

Mr Cyril Ward, eldest son of the Prime Miuister, who was operated on in Wellington a few days ago, i.s out of danger and is progressing favourably.

Mrs A. C. Taylor, of Christchurch, has passed the advanced examination in Esperanto (with honours). The examination was con ducted by the British Esperanto Association.

xMr H. \V» *Martyn Roberts, who was clerk of works for the Nelson College and other buildings, and the septic tank and outfall sewer contracts- here, has been engaged by Messrs Thos. Turnbull -and Son, architects, in a similar capacity at Wellington.

A well known name was removed from the'political rolls of New South Wales last week, when Mr B. R. Wise, K.C., was struck off the list of members of the Legislative Couu cil for being absent. Mr Wise is -at present practising his profession in England. Tie was a former Attor-ney-Goneral in New South Wales.
