GALE AT AUCKLAND.

DAMAGE, £2000. 1 I Auckland, March 7. A heavy northerly gale and plenteous rain were experienced last nightj and the stormy condiions continue. A number of small craft : were driven ashore. March 8. The damage done by the gale is estimated at over £2000. A number of boats, some of them valuable craft 5 were destroyed, including the yachts Hinemoa and Teraiki ; the launches Rochester, owned by Mr Hare, the Thorneycroft, owned by Ryan Co., and the Napier, owned by R. Logan, senior. The shipping has had a rough time, all the steamers arriving reporting having experienced a severe buffeting.
