NELSON LAND BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Nel3ou Land Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs F. \V. Flanagan, Commissioner of Crown Lands (chairman), Lynch, Wratt, Walker, and Sinclair. Applications for^renewable leases were dealt with as follows:—Richard Swell, 312 acres, block si, Matiri, (proposed education reserve). — Not open for selection under renewable lease, but it was resolved that applicant be offered an occupation license over the section at 30s per annum. Richard Sewell, 177 acres, section 2, block 3, Matin, capital value 6s (3d per acre.— Not yet open for selection under renewable lease, but when it was proclaimed applicant could then apply, j Wei by V. Hadiield, 100 arces.. block ; vi, Totaranui, postponed, pending! enquiry as to road access. | Applications'under M. D.L.O. Act were dealt with as follows: — Richard Ellis, 50 acres, block xiii, Pakawau, postponed for advertisement and report. Frank Walker, 100 acres, block sv, Aorere, granted, conditionally. Andrew Hunter, 25 acres, block vi, Ngakawau, postponed for report. Applications for pastoral licenes under regulations of Bth September," 1904, were dealt with as follows— U. B.Sinclair, section 222, block n, Steeples 19a 21p, Tdeclined ; F. U. Lester, 50 acres, block ix, Tutaki, consideration deferred; H. G. Stephen, 6 acres, block ii, Kawatiri, road reserve, declined, being a public road ; Eliza - Stephen, 11 acres, block v ii, Kawatiri, scenic reserve, declined, the question of application under another tenure to be considered at the Westport meeting; HJ. R. Issell, 400 acres, block i, Waitakere, referred to Warden for report; Joyce Ford, 100 acres, | Knight's Flat, Matakitaki river, declined, land to bo left aa a commoncige. Applications for occupation licenses were dealt with as follows: — K S. Salisbury, 1000 acres, block iv, Lcslio S. D., granted, rent £± nor annum; W. E. Fairhall, 500 acres, blocKs xiii and xiv, Mount Arthur S. D., granted, rent £2; Annie Lewis, 50 acres square 9, Kaiteritori, declined; A, P. Woolf, 8 acres, east of section 12, block viii, Kaiteriteri, declin3f*; W. Allan, 1000 acres, block iii, Ganland, resolved that occupation license held by Salisbury and Field be cancelled, and demand made for payment of arrears of rent ; application granted, rent £4; J. H. Lines, 200 acres, blocks i, ii, and iv, Tainni, granted, rent £5; N. McConchie. 1000 acres, blocks ii and vi, Hope, granted, rent £4; D. M. Anderson, 10 acres, block ix, Reefton, S. D., . postponed for advertisement; James Thomas, scenic reserve, adjoining Mrs Thomas' 1. i.p. S2Ction, block v ii, and section t's, block xii, Matiri, declined, the Board having no intention of leasing this area. Applications for Crown grants: — Raby Peter Riley, sectione 96, and 97, block ir, Aorere, 49 ares lr 13p, granted: F. C Batchelor, section 4, block i, Motueka, 272 acres, granted : Graham Shaw, section 4, block v, Pakawao, 125 acres, postponed for report ; J. S. Wratt, section 5, block l, Motueka, 244 acres, grant, cd.

. Applications to purchase lands held under I. i.p. were considered. Rachael Fanny Edwards applied for certain sections in Wakapuaka and Maungatapu Survey Districts. The appraisers' valuations were received, and the Board directed that a copy of their valuation be forwarded to the applicant's solicitor. Henry Bunn, section 1, block x, Tutaki S. D.— Resolve^ ! ' ••.! Mr G. Macmahon be appointed appraiser to value the land. Amended proposals for expenditure of thirds were granted as follows:—Waimea County Council, £4 14s 6d; Buller County Council, iJS 9s lOd. Certain lands, totalling 3579 acres, m the Wai-iti, Takaka, and Kaiteriteri survey districts, having been released from reservation, it was resolved to recommend the Minister of Lands to throw open these areas under tbo optional system at 10s per acre. The Commissioner reported that the reservation of certain lands known as the Waketield Domain, and section 33, block xi, Wangapeka, had been cancelled by the Reserves and Otn?r Lands Disposal and Public Bodies Empowering Act. An application by Mrs A. J. Hodgson to exchange occupation license over 500 acres, block xv and x, Howard, and iii, Arnaud, for a renewablo lease was declined, the Boßrri being unable, according to law. to convert an occupation license under the Land Act, 1592, to a renewable lease.

General applications for land were considered. John Bassctt aoplied to lease land known aa the Sandhills, in the Pakawau survey [district 1 ,- for a residence site. The Board rpsolved to consider an application for an occupation license, and that applicant must advertise the application. W. J. Kinzett applied to select land comprised in occupation license, 1700 acres, Owen survey district, formerly held by himself and G. W. Kinzott (1000 Bc-es now held by Win nnd Turner). Pearce applied to lease 100 acres at the back of tne Nine Mile Ferry Hotel, - which is owned by applicant. — Postponed until Weatport meeting of the Bnard.

Resolved that G. W. Martin's request to reinstate tol. i.p. section SI, block ii, Kongahu, recently held by John Reid, and cancelled by the Board cannot be complied with, as the lease had been cancelled and the area was now Urown lands.

Angu3 Mofherson, Wangapeka, forwarded a statement of losses in oourred by"him through bush fires, and applied for relief. The Board resolved to recommend the Minister of Lands tv remit half a year's rent and to furnish him with seed for repressing the burnt terraces. Thomas Corcoran's application to exchange lease under M.D.L.. Joseph Gcodyer's application to exchange pastoral license over 150 acres, block ii,, Tufcaki, for renewable lease was granted conditionally. R. A. Dean's application to exchange area of 50 acres, block i, Kongahu, bold by applicant under occupation license to renewable lease, was declined, applicant already having suitable.homestead site on his leasehold. \ complaint was received from Wm Beainsley, relative to the Board's refusal to grant him an occupation license over 40 acres, part of Matakitaki river bed. The Commissioner stated that the writer had been informed that his application for occupation license over that area had been declined, and that an occupation license over section 88, Murchison, had bees granted. R. A. K. Oldbam's request for permission to effect improvements in any part of his block, Tadmor, instead of improving each was acceded to. Robert Ellis wrote in reference to exchange of certain freehold land in block ii, Gordon survey district, for part of run No. 22.— Resolved that as the writer had expressed his inability to agree with tho Board's proposals, negotiations with him be terminated, and the lessee of the run be informed accordingly. Consideration of A. D. " J. Cu turnings' letter in reference to certain occupation licenses ou North Beach, Westport, was deferred until the. Board's meeting at Westport. C. R. P. Ash ton Brown's surrender of lease, section 1, block viii, Motueka, 123 a 2r, was accepted, 'land to be re-opened under the optional system at the original price. A report on Crown leases in Tadmor, Gordon, Rintoul, Wangapeka, and Waimea survey district by Mr Harris was received,., showing that on 77 holdings, comprising 24,087 acres, improvements to the value of £13,965 had been effected, being £5825 more than required. If; was resolved that the applicants who have not fulfilled the conditions of their leases be called upon to do 90 without delay. A special report was received on P. B. Ricketts' 1-i.p. holdings in blocks ii, xi, and xii, Tadmor S. D. . — Resolved that he be informed that he must enter into a bond to effect certain improvements land make arrangements, for the balance of the improvements to be effected. An application by Messrs Bo water and Bryan was deferred until tbe Board meets at Westport. It was resolved that the Colling 'wood County Council's application for reserve of 4a 2r 28p for waterworks be -recommended for approval, the site to be fixed by the district surveyor and the local body. Resolved that F. G. Lester's application for pastoral license, 200 acres, block ii, Tutaki, be located adjoining his freehold. W. U. P hillips, junr.,and — Cameron waited upon the Board in reference to proposed transfer of section 21, Wangapeka settlement, from Mrs Cameron to Mr Phillips. It was resolved that in the public interest the Board regrets it cannot consent to the proposed transfer. l Several transfers were approved, and the Board rose at s*p. m.
