PRICE OF COAL RAISED.

Westport, February 12. The Westport Coal Company baa notified Westport customers of an increase in the price of coal on and after Ist March, viz. screened coal, from 17s to 18s a ton ; unscreened coal, from 10s to 10s od. Mr Dixon, district manager, informs the Press Association agent hat tne advance is due to tho altered conditions of working at the mines increasing the cost of production.

Ever since the Minister's visit to the Derinistoa Colliery operations have proceeded with pleasurable smoothness, and the ontput is being splendidly maintained. The relations between the management and the employees lea\e nothing to be desired.

Later. In connection with the increase in the price of Westport coal at Westport, Mr Joachim (general manager for the company) states there is no intention of advancing prices in Dunedin. The increase in t price is purely local.
