A BUFERAGETTE DISTURBANCE.
Received January 3i, 4.2H p.m. London, January 31. Suffragettes made a noisy detuonstration* before nine o'clock to-day outside the houses of Mr Haldane, Earl Gray, Mr Sinclair, Sir W. Vernon Harcourt, and Messrs Burns and Birroll. They expressed extreme disgust that women's suffrage ' was not mentioned in tho King's speech. Seven arrests were made. and four were sentenced to sis weeks' imprisonment. Received Jan. 1, 9.30 p.m. i London, Jau. ;>i. Mr Asquith informed a National | Union of Women Suffrage So°ieties deputation headed by Mrs Henry j Fawcett and Lady Francis Baffour, that the question was not pro iimnently before the electorates at the last election, and the Government was unable to sacrifice -any urgent measures entrusted to them for the purpose of initiating such a great change. The initiation by this Parliament was not justified, even if Cabinet was unanimous on the question, which it was not.
