Received January 30, 11.15 p.m. Sydneyj January 30; Letters received "by Mrs .David, state that Lieutenant Sbaokletoii asked Professor Liavid to remain with bim in tne winter quarters this year to take sole charge of the scientific work except the biological part, and also to take charge of f. c publication of the scientific results, in so far as they relate to geology and meteorology. Professor David accepts on condition that when he reaches the great ice barrier he can stand the climate. Lieut. Sbackleton thinks the Professor will stand the cold batter. than some of the younger hiembers of the expedition.
