CRICKET.
A NEW RULE. London, January 29. Apropos to Tarrant having contemplated mailing use of the double season by playing for Victoria and Middlesex alternately, the Counties Advisory Cricket Committee have resolved, subject to the Marylebone Club's confirmation, to alter tbe rule as to county cricket as follows :— "A cricketer may not play for mote than one County within the calendnr year, the penalty for infringement , being disqualification for two years. A British- colony or dependency or State shall be regarded as a count}'." j Received January 30, 11.15 p.m. j Melbourne, January 30. Major Wardill has received - a cable from the Middlesex Club, statinjr that "a rule has been passed preventing a cricketer from playing for a colony or an English county in the same year. Feeling is strong on the subject. Please do not play Tarrant again for Victoria. Will compensate if necessary. " Received January 30, 11; 15 p.m. Sydney, January 30. There was no cricket to-day owing to rain.
