DISAPPEARANCE OF A WEALTHY CHINAMAN.
; Gisborne, December '27. Some time ago it was reported that ; How Chowj a wealthy Chinaman 1 , ; who had left Gisborne on a visit to China, had disappeared. It was believed that he was captured by bandits. His wife, who .is a European woman, went to China, and made an unsuccessful search for him. News has now been received from ; How Chow at Hong Kong, stating that he had been held for a year for a ransom, but be was now free.
