A YOUNG WOMAN DROWNED.

Masterton, December 27. A sad drowning accident occurred in the Ruamahunga river this afternoon, in w,hich Miss Hilda Cook, aged eighteen years, who was a daughter of Mr and Mrs A. J. Cook, of Wadestown, Wellington, lost her life. A boy named Godfrey Ulapcott was in the river swimming, haviDg on swimming wings. The wings came off, and Clapcott went after them, when he got out of his depth. He'commenced to sink, and Miss Cook, twho was bathing with three children, and who was unable to Sffini, went after him to try and get him out, wh6n she got beyond her depth. She sank, and was drowned. Another boy named Hunter cot Ciapcott out of the water. The body of Miss Cook was recovered about tbreequarters of an hour afterwards. She was on a holiday hero with her friends.
