Wanganui, August 50. \ The police have been dragging tbo ! rver all the morning without success 1 for the body of a young man named Alfred P. Mason, aged about 20, who 1 is supposed to have committed suicide on Sunday night, he was last seen. A Bible, a watch, and a handkerchief, the last tied to a willow ntmr the water's edge, were discovered this morniog, and the police believe it is a case of suic ide. The 1 deceased has a brother and a widowed mother in Auckland. No reason is assigned for the deed, except that the young man had been slightly in--1 disposed . I • ■ . Te Arohaj August 20. m Ellis and 00. 's branch carriage factory was burned down last night. There was a poor water supply. The damage is estimated at £350.
