Lady Auckland is the latest member of the peerage to turn shopkeeper. She has opened a business in Baker-street, London, under the title of " Morton and Edwards, Furnishers, Decorators, and Builders," her intention being to restore, if possible, tliD fortune lost by Lord Auckland on the Stock Exchange. It is the Auckland peerage, by the way, which has given its name to one of the cities of New Zealand, and its family name of Edeu to the extinct volcano that overlooks the city. The present Lady Auckland is a daughter of Colonel George Morland Hutton, C.B. She is a member of the Arkwright family, being a great granddaughter of the great inventor.

The latest thefts (says a correspondent) have been of Mr Dittiner's book on 'The Legends of the Maori,' four copie3 of the work having been abstracted from members' boxes. One member is reported to have sold his copy of the book (worth a guinea) for two shillings.
