A DOCTOR CONVICTED.
Auckland, August 14. At the Supreme Court to-day, Dr. James Dalziel was found guilty of the charge of performing an illegal operation. The jury recommended the prisoner to mercy on account of his age, he being sixty years of age. Mr Justice Denniston remarked that from letters found on the prisoner when he was arrested, one could not help realising that the prisoner had a reputation for this kind of thing. He agreed with the verdict, and would comply with the jury's request. The prisoner was sentenced to four years' imprisonment, his Honor remarking that it was a much shorter sentence than usually was given in such cases.
