NELSON EDUCATION BOARD.

> MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the [ Education Board was commenced yes- - terday. Present: Messrs Maginnity i (chairman), Bailie, Shepherd, Fair, ? Lock, Franklyn, Beuke, and Smith. Mr Baigent was granted leave of absence. I Mr Beuke reported that he had authorised an expenditure of £9 at [ Lower Moutere. He was thanked, x and his action was approved. Mr Beuke having reported favorl ably, it was resolved to expend £6 on well and pump at Orinoco School in place of the present tank. ' A report on the teacher's house at I Upper Wakefield was submitted by I Mr Smith, and adopted, and the i Secretary was instructed to prepare r plans, etc. Mr Oropp, of the Upper \ Wakefield School Committee, waited 3 on the Board in reference to the i matter. t In reply to the Board's application 3 a subsidy for agricultural olasses \ was refused by the Deparment. Mr Allan was granted the use of r the Bedstead School at a rental of \ 2s 6d a week. The question of the removal of the Anatoki School was referred to ; Messrs Baigent and Maginnity. ' The Treasurer's statement showed the following balanoes: — General Account, Dr., £705 6s 6d ; Buildings Account, Or balance £1228 9s 3d ; grants advised, £3600 : less unliqui ' dated votes,£4s79; amount available, ! £249 ; contractors' deposits accounts, Cr balance £134 5s 6d. The question of a teacher's house " at Orinoco was discussed. It was [ resolved that the matter remain in abeyance, and the Committee re- ' quested to report to the Board in : reference, to lodgings for the teacher. Applications were granted as ' follows:— Kaituna, 30s for gravelling; Stoke,2ss for new pump; Nga- . timoti, £4 15s for kitchen range to be fixed in house ; Spring Grove, £2 for repairs to house. The Suburban North and Richmond Committees were'authorised to call for and submit tenders for repairs and painting. Mr Williams, clerk, was granted a fortnight's leave of absence. Mr Corrigan waited on the Board, and presented a petition from settlers on the Wangapeka Estate praying for the establishment of a school. The request was granted, and Mr Corrigan was authorised to expend £5 in preparing a room for an aided school. | Applications for teacherships were dealt with as follows: Nelson Girls' School, pupil teacher (five applications), names of Master R. C. Bell, Misses L. Homer, O. Raikes and K. Redgrave to be forwarded ; Churchill (two applications), deferred for a month ; Sandy Bay, sole teacher, the Committee to be consulted as to the appointment |of Miss Iris Scott ; Charleston, pupil teacher, Committee to be consulted as to the appointmentof of Miss Mo watt; Leicester's Household, Miss Catherine ( Watson was appointed.
