Moving picture shows, like the Scriptural poor, appear to be always with us, but that their popularity is not decreasing was shown by the numerous and highly appreciative audience which assembled at the Theatre Royal on Saturday evening on the occasion of the opening performance by the Salvation Army j Biorama Company and Band. The programme presented was a good one, and comprised moving pictures, brass band eelections, illustrated aongs, and an anthem by some of the members of the company. The pictures, which were almost entirely new to Nelson, j were large and well shown, and their, steadiness was a marked feature. Among the S9ries of films shown* one of the best was the one entitled "Fox Hunting in England," showing the hounds at the kennels, and following the hunt until the capture of the "brush," while other good ones were "A Woman's Love," showing the rescue work of the Salvation Army, "The Reign of Terror in Russia," a realistic and clever "fake," "Trapped by Pinkerton's, " an interesting detective story, views of Kingston, the capital of Jamaioa, which were a really fine series, and the illustrated poem "The Curfew must not ring to-night. Humorous pictures formed the major part of the programme, and kept the audience in roara of laughter. Lieut. Stephens sang two songs, "Only a Private, That's All, "and "A Picture no Artist can Paint," both of which were illustrated by beautiful colored slides, were andjdeservedly applauded, A sacred musical recital was given by Major Perry's Eiectrio Biorama yesterday afternoon. Several selections were rendered by the splendid band attached to the Biorama, one item deseviug special mention, being "Gems of Sacred Melody." At night the Theatre was crowded to the utmost, the floor, gallery and yen the stage being filled to the greatest possible extent, and many had to be turned away before the advertised time. Beautiful films illustrating the evils of alcohol, scenes from the Holy Land, the Life of ftl oses, and the Life of Christ, were admirably presented by the latest Gaumont Bioscope. It is no exaggeration to say that at no time has a Nelson audience witnessed finer pictures. Several songs were also rendered by Lieut. Stephens, while the audience joined very heartily in several beautifully illustrated congregational songs. To-night the company will render the second programme of their season, when pictures such as "The Wreck of the .Mary Jane," "Two Naugbty Boys of Nelson," "The Felon's Child," "The Runaway; Van, "as well as films representing | New Zealand scenery, 'such as the j Milford Sound, French Pass, "Pelorua Jack," the River Avon,' Blenheim and local views, including the suggested Town Hall and Municipal Opera House on the Milton Acre site, , will be shown. For the benefit of those unable to attend on Saturday, one or two of the gems of that night will be repeated, such as "Fox Hunting in England," and "The Reign of Terror" in Russia. The light for the ! projection of moving pictures is generated by means of the finest triple cyinder motor engine existing in the Southern Hemisphere. We feel confident that a bumper house will be attracted by this popular company. When coughs and colds disturb the house, When sick kids worry mater, And sneezing through the night annoys The tired and weary pater. You'll heat him toss and say to ma, •' To-morrow you procure ■The stuff to cure those sneezing kids, . I That's Woods' Great. Peppermint "Cure, I
