The Assembly has unanimously passed Mr Malan's resolution urging the Cape Government to approach the other South African Governments -vith> view to federation. Mr Malan said'that federation would be achieved in five years. Dr Jameson, in secohdihg the motion, advised the i-'ede-a-ionists to hasten slowly. He expected that when the intercolonial Conference on customs and railways had concluded its business early in 1908, it would proceed to consider the preliminaries of federation, thus paving the way for a national convention elected by the people.
