EARTHQUAKES NORTH OF AUSTRALIA.
eeamt Received June 29, 1.10 a.m. Thursday Island, June 28. Two shocks of earthquake occurred last night preceded by two severe explosions which caused the residents to rush into the streets, believing that a military magazine had blown up. Later another heavy detonation occurred,' followed by a long series of low rumblings. The earthquake appeared to come from south to north. The vibrations were not ao terrifying as the accompanying noise. Many women wera prostrated with fear.
