Received June 23, 4.33 p.m. Pretoria, June 22. In the Assembly, Mr Smuts,speaking to a want of confidence motion, tabled by Sir George Farrar, said the Chinese cause was as dead as , the dodo; the Chinese must go. T lr Government intended to stand by the mines, and assist them to overcome their difficulties. . Sir Farrar, in replying, said that if the'motion was lost then farewell o progress and expansion ; it would bury the country's financial reputation and inpair its credit. ' The motion wa« defeated by 4o to 21.
