SEVEN-A-SIDB T9VRNAMBN.ii The Nelson Rugby Union's fund should be considerably enhanced by the proceeds of the tournament of June 3, the attendance at Trafalgar Paik being very large. The afternoon was perfect for football, being devoid of wind, while the atmosphere was bracing. Unfortunately, owing to unavoidable delays, some of the spells had to be shortened, while the senior final, in which keen inter est was centred, Ltad to be played in semi darkness. In the senior contest the Nelson Club, which for five consecutive years bad annexed the Littlejohn shield, was defeated by the Kival A team, after a very fast and keen game in the final. The Ripper shield for second juniors was appropriated by Waimea, and the win was extremely popular. The games were not without mishaps, Murphy, a Rival player, fracturing a bane of his leg, and F. Nesbitt, of the Albion Club, injuring his ribs, while the Huia Club lost the services of Mauoy owing to a sudden indisposition in their first game. Some of the matches were not as fast as in previous tournaments, but the semi-finals and finals were interesting and keen, and the Suburban teams deserve mention for their displays, the Huias playing v<3ry stubborn games in the senior contesc. The duties of referee were carried out by Messrs Nalder, AtKinson, 0. G. Batchelor, Logan, and tfatchelor. Appended are the results of the various giimes: SENIOR. Winners: Rival A — Hannigan Park, Stapp, Chapman, Bennett Jones, and Christie. Waimea v. Huia : Cook scored for Waimea, and Hall for Huia, while the latter crossed the line again in the second half. Huia 6, Waimea 3. College v. Nelson: In the first bout Laird and Smith soored, Henry converting both tries, while in the second Laird and Gilbert scored, Henry kicking a goal from the latter try. Nelson 18, College 0. Rival A v. Albion A- : Jones kicked a penalty, and Christie crossed the line for the Rivals in the first spell, while Uhristie added |two more tries in the second, Jones piloting both over the bar. Rival A 16, Albion A 0. Rival B v. Albion B : On ohang ing ends Nesbitt kicked a penalty goal and Gaynor scored a try. Albion B 6, Rival B 0. Nelson v. Huia, semi final: Dodson for Nelson obtained the only score in the first spell. In the second Gilbert added another try, Henry converting. Kn*pp got over the line for Huia. Nelson 8, Huia 3. Rival A v. Albion B, semi final: Bennett and Park in the first half, and Cbapman and Hannigan in the second scored for the Rivals, while Jones added the major points in each case. Rival A 20, Albion -B 0. Rival A v. Nelson, final: Stapp and Christie scored for tho Rivals, and Laird for Nelson. Henry converted the last try. Rival A 6, Nelson 5. SECOND JUNIOR. Winners, Waimea — Beach (2), Poole, Baker, Challis, Leagh, and Tomlinson. Riwaka v. Albion B. Lamb scored two tries, and Dickson one for the Albions, the latter 'converting one. Albion B 11, Riwaka 0. Rival v. College: In the game the College were victorious by 6 points to 3, Gilmour kicking a penalty, and King crossing the line. Watson scored|for the Albions. Waimea v. Albion A : Poole scored twice for Waimea and Baker and Beach a try each, Challiea converting one. The Albions' only score was obtained by Simmonds. Waimea 14, Albion A 3. College v. Albion B, semi-final: For the Albions Karsten, Dickson (2) and Hargreaves scored, Allan and Brown each kicking a goai. Albion B 16, College 0. Waimea v. Albion B, final. The latter were defeated by 3 points to nils Baker scoring for Waimea.
