Blenheim. June 17,

An inmate of the Prison camp at Dumgrie, named Charles Hamilton Moir, aged 27, serving a sentence of 18 months, was drowned in the Awatere liiver on Saturday afterroon. The gang of prisoners were collecting firewood, when Moir waded cut to secure a floating log, which struck him. Antother prisoner bad narrow escape in trying to rescue Moir. The body was recovered in ten minutes, but life was eytinct. Dargaville, June 17. The launch Lily ran into the bows of the steamer Baroonu. The occupants, three men and a boy, were thrown out. The men were rescued by ropes, but the boy was nearly drowned. A sailor named Sydney Rowe jumped in and held him up till a rescue boat came.

Whangarei, June 17, | Rawnsley stables, at Poroti, ten miles from Whangarei, were totally destroyed by fire on Saturday nuht, five valuable draught horses being incinerated.
