PECULIAR CASE
ALLEGED ALTERATION OF SCORE Trentham Rifle Range, March 5 It appears that the alteration of one of the cards in the Volunteer Match "A" to-day, is of a more serious nature than appeared at the Hist blush. From what can be learned outside (the Council having met in private), it appears that some of the comptjtitors were becoming suspicious of the manner in which the scores were being registered on at the back of one target, and it was at the expenso of their own shooting that they kept an eye on those of whom they had a suspicion. At tho 600 yards, one of the men upon whom suspicion rested, left the mound with his total at 33, and both his card and the blaokboard showed this. On being challenged as to the correctness of these figures, the competitor, who hails from the South Island, admitted that the cor rest score was 27, and his score was al tered to that number. The register keeper, who also comes front tho South, admits the correctness of the score, 27, and he initialled the card to that effect. There are two others implicated, and the matter will be discussed to-night by the Council. The members of the latter are reticent, but it is not improbable that those connected with the matter will be disqualifiod by the Association.
