December 18 1. 1 a. m. Sydney, December 17. At the wools sales competition was spirited in all sections and prices are firm at late rates. Greasy sold at 13% d. AUSTRALIAN. Hobart, December 15. Adams' timber yard, Launceston, has been destroyed by fire. The! damago is £8000. Melbourne, December 17. Davies' and Company's soft goods warehouse, Flinders Lane, was destroyed by fire last night. The damage is estimated at £20,000. The insurances are £12,700. The Mt. Lyell Company has raised the wages of minera 6d a day. Several other fine nuggets have been unearthed at Tarnagulla. Sydney, December 17. The steamer Pathon has arrived from Japan. A Lascar, a member of the crew, is suffering from small pox. The doctor in charge of the (Jallan Park Asylum was examining a revolver belonging to a patient when it exploded, and killed an attendant named Price. A motor car containing four residents of Sydney was descending Lap9tone Hill, Penrith, when it collided with a rock. One of the occupants, named Grainger, was killed, and another was severely injured. Adelaide, December 17. The wharf laborers' strike has been settled. There is practically a victory for the men. A new agreement, with a currency of "12 months has been signed. It upholds the principle of 8 hours a day, and maintains the system of unbroken quarters of a day. The day shifts are allowed two "Smoke ohs" of ten minutes each instead of two of twenty minutes as previously, and the night shifts have two "Smoke Ohs" of twenty minutes each. All other conditions remain unaltered. Work has boen resumed.
