MAIL SERVICE TO THE FRENCH PASS.
A deputation from the French Pass headed by Mr Stewart, was then introduced by Mr Graham, and the speakers asked to have the weekly mail service continued. It was pointed out that the tender was considerably higher than before, and was not likely to be accepted, The question was whether the Government would raiae the subsidy from £60 to £175. Sir Joseph said there was hot a service in the country for which they paid £150, and only got a return of £8. He was afraid he could not stretch a point and make any promise. The deputations then retired, Mr Graham thanking the Premier for his courtesy and attention.
