The racial hatred in America is drawing the negroes closer together, and in ruany places the negroes only deal with nergoes in business. After every disturbance in New York between white and black a few more negroes give their trade to the little Ehop kept by their own race. In the South the rudeness of white salesmen towards nergo customers has been largely responsible for the opening of negro shop 3. The white chemist's shop refuses to serve the black customer with soda water and takes long time over putting up his prescriptions, with the result that there are negro chemists in business. A writer in an American paper, who visited an attractive boot shop in Atlanta kept by a negro, heard negro woman express her gratitude at being able to buy shoes without being insulted, "My little girl is getting

to an age when I can no .longer buy her shoes without her trying them on, and I dreaded unspeakably the rudeness she would meet with from a whije saleswoman." And although the white treats the nergo with inso-' lence, be does not mind dealing at a negro shop, if it pays him to do so. I
