NEW ZEALAND BOWLEKS IN AUSTRALIA.

ftefteited October 18, 10.19 p.m. , Sydney, October 18. The New Zealahders suffered defeat in fiwq four rink matches against Petersham dnd Ashfield. At the former place the local teafc included three inter-State players, and is a very strong combination. Altogether Snedclon's rink, which performed *cry weakly at Maitland, was the cause of the visitors' downfall at Petersham. The other three rinks were twelve up at the finish, but Sneddon's finished seventeen down. Bouskill brought bis game along strongly and, although Wheeler's rink had the worst of i$ in the first couple of hours, they played so excellently, uphill that they finished level. Waddell's rink played a good steady game. The scores were: Basing Court, Keasfc and Sneddon j7? -Petersham £4; Scott, McGibbon, Gillies and Wheeler 25 Petersham 25: Ackburst, Lefevre, Dall and Booskill 25, Petersham 18; Bee, Short , Hanilcock and Waddell 23, Petersham 18; totals Peteisham 95, New Zealand 90. The game at Ashfield was very closely contested. For the visitors, Black aad Rudd played a great leading game, the local team being a good one and including two of the inter-state team. For the best part of tho gamo the scores ran neck and fidCk, then Ashfield got a lead and maintained It to the finish. When the last head was started the New Zdalanders were &ight down but they reduced this deficit by a couple. The Scores tfere: Black, Osmond, Taylor and Manning 1 2i, Ashfield 20; Ledingham, Mowlera, Marsden and Rankin 17, Ashfield 29; Reid, Jackson, Smith and Payne 26, Ashfield 27; Buchanan, McLean, 23, Ashfield 19. ; totals, Ashfield 95 ; New Zealand 90. As a seven rink team tho visitors woutf be reasonably strong, but as an eight rink it has an element of weakness which may have its effect in the inter-State match.
