MUSICAL EVENING AT MOTUEKA
A musical evening was given by the ladies of St. Thomas' Church on Tuesday, 18th inst, The idea was to devote the proceeds to the purchase of materials to be worked up for a bazaar towards the end of the year, in aid of the Building Fund of the new church. Both , financially and otherwise, the evening was a great Success, arid mtfdh credit is due td Mrs Jonns'toiie find her band of willing workers. ThS musical part of the programiiie was , in the hands of Mrs Symes, whci . worked hard to get all the rivaitafele ' musical talent together, and .the insult wad A iiioßt fenjoyabie evening; Pianoforte selections were" rendered by Mr Scott, Medames Symes and Anderson, and the Misses A. and B. Jordan( 2), Jennings and Easton. A recitation was beautifully given by Mr A. I. Manoy during the first ' part of the programme, and later on one from Kipling, Jby • Mr: Rattom which was much Appreciated. Vocal items were contributed by Mesdames 1 Mclnnes, .< Andrews, and the Misses Manoy, Pratt and Simpson, and ; Messrs Whelan (Nelson), Uren, Rhodes and Park. . , Before the supper interval, a spelling competition, supervised by Mr , Andrews, created much amusement. I The prize was won by Miss Gladys Jordan, the second falling to Mr Le Mottee. After this refreshments were handed round. At the close, the Chairman, the Rev. T. Johnstone, thanked the performers and all who had helped to make the evening a subcess'
