CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER
Wellington, September 19. The result of an inquest held on the 'body of an infant to-day was that Mre Mm Gny, in whose custody the I 'child had been placed, was arrested to-night on a charge of manslaughter.- The cirumstancesof the case were that the infant,' the child of aetnglo girl.had been given intcGuy's car.c, twpnfey pounds being paid by;the mofber. The child died:;<^n Sunday last, not having -been^ieen by a medical man. It was twenty-one months old. The surgeon' who made, the post mortem said: -lie found the body; thin and emaciated, it ' weighed about hall what it should have done. There was '.hardly 'any int ■' on the b.dy, and^tbere* waS not a s^gn of food in the e'tomach nr intes ines. The child had^ been given a lung balsam pre pared by a local chemist and this contained tincture of chloroforn and.morphia and laudanum.
