RICHMOND.
On Friday night the Nelson Amateur Operatic Society produced the comedy "Arabian Nights," in the Oddfellows' Hall, but unfortunately, owing to the wet night, there was a small audience. Those who turned out, however, spent a very enjoyable evening, the piece going well from start to finish. Of the principals, Mr A. E. Jackson took the part of Arthur Humingtop, and played it splendidly, and was responsible for the bulk of the fun. As Ralph Ormerod (Hummingtop's friend), Mr P. R. Parker was very successful, as was Mr Frank Aubrey as Joshua Gillibrand. and Mr Cecil Palmer made a capital Dobsbn. Mrs P. Topliss as Mrs Gillibrand (Hummingtop's mother in-law), was splendid, and deserves special mention ; also Miss H. Reeves, as Rosa Columbier (the Gutta Percha Girl). Miss Suckling, as Mrs Hummingtop, had a difficult part, and Mrs Parker, as Barbara, and Miss Kelling, as Miss Daisy Maitlandp, were all very successful.
On the whole, the performance was a thoronghly good and enjoyable o.iey and amply repaid those who turned out even on such a wet night. At the conclusion of the performance, Dr. Orford, on behalf of Richmond, thanked the performers for the pleasant evening provided, and also tbe public for attending is such unfavorable weather. The vote of thanks was carried by acclamation. Half the proceeds will be Landed to the Band, which will probably be £5 or £6-
The lady friends of the Band Committee provided the 'visitors with ref resh men ts before] £&lea ving £ f or home.
