U.S.A. AND PHONETIC SPELLING.
Received August 27, 10.30 pm. New York, August 27. President Roosevelt has directed the Public Printer to print Presidential messages and other White House documents in accordance with the phonetic spelling recommended by the Brander Matthews Committee which Mr Carnegie is financing. The newspapers resist the innovation and sarcastically commentand express amazement.
