FOUR LIVES LOST.
Westport, July 18.
A sad accident took place at Kara* mea this afternoon. Four menCaptain Seversen, Fran sen, mate, and seamen Robert Wilson and. James Hunter being drowned. They were out sounding on the bar, and a breaker caught and smashed their boat, and they shortly afterwards disappeared from view. Their bodies have not yet been recovered. Particulars are meagre, but it is understood that Seversen and Fransen belonged to a scow, possibly the Haere, and that Hunter was the son of a well-known engineer resident, of Karamea.
Wellington, July 18.
News was received to-day from the Karamea that Stenersen, of the scow Bangi, with two of the crew and & young man named James Huntert were capsized out of a boat while sounding the bar and were drowned. Stenersen leaves a widow and family in Wellington. Hunter was an engineer by trade, and was living with, his'pa rents.
