">*>« — — Hobart, July M. '■ A rnbtion of censure has been moved in the' State Assembly, generally disagreeing fifom the Government policy. Messrs Bml and Nicholls have joined forces,' and therefore there is some prospect of tfn? tJovernment being defeated. . Perth, July 12, The State expenditure for the year exceeded the revenue by £733,379; bnt this sum is lower than the Ireasurer estimated. . . The amount of gold-mining dividends paid in the State for the hali year is £974,283. Sydney. July 12. The Burwood miners have struck I owing to the dismissal of a miner i who had refused to do some wheeling in a diih'cult position in the mine. The State Pmnrier intends to move that W. P. Crick, ex-Minister for Lands (who is awaiting his trial in connection with the land scandals, and who caused a disgraceful scene in the House recently) be suspended until the charges are decided by the Courts. The "Herald" says the Assembly i seemed to be paralysed at the very ■ thought of dealing with Crick, though the report of its own Commissioner was before the House. Neither the Speaker, nor the Government, nor the Assembly seemed cap- \ able of rising to the occasion. The j Government had hedged and quibbled and sought to make it clear that the proper way would be to give the law courts precedence, while in effect holding Crick by the collar. Tbe paper adds that nothing more hollow j could be imagined. j The "Telegraph" says that Parlia- j ment has virtually handed over the custody of its honor to a magistrate who may or may not pass it on to a jury promiscuously selected. The great anti-climax, however, was that j the Premier now proposes to penalise innocent constituents by suspending Crick until the courts give a decision.
