This valuable property has had roads laid off through it, and has been subdivided into allotments, which are now for sale on most reaonble terms. Dr. Torrey, writing to a Soottish friend, says there is a spirit of revival throuhgout the whole United States which has not been known for a number of years. There is a weekly, journal published at Zurich called the "Engaged Couples Advertiser" which, it is stated, has agents at work all over Switzerland, ascertaining the name of every girl who is engaged to be married, arid that, of E'er prospective husband. These names are printed in the paper, with the addresses of the sweethearts and a description of their social position. Soon after the announcement of her engagement a girl finds herself al most in a position to start a shop, so numerous are the samples she receives from firms anxious to do business. A custom tO; which a pathetic interest attaches is still observed at a public-house in Devonshire road, Bow, London, called "The Widow's Son." Hanging in one of the rooms are many buns blackened by age, and an addition to their number is made i each Good Friday. According to local tradition the house was once kept by a widow whoso only son adopted a seafaring life starting on bis first voyage on Good Friday.
